The Downtown Comedy Club, a staple of downtown Los Angeles’ entertainment scene since 2007, has undergone a brand transformation to more closely align itself with its legendary and iconic owner and host, Garrett Morris. Now known as Garrett Morris’ Downtown Blues & Comedy Club, the brand features a new name and logo, a new venue, a new website, and a greater assortment of entertainment elements.

The brand transformation and new identity for Garrett Morris’ Downtown Blues & Comedy Club was developed by The Remedy, a Dallas, TX-based branding solutions firm, which served as the brand manager and creative director for the project. The Remedy concepted and produced the new brand’s service marks and also developed the new website and all of the ancillary collateral materials associated with the relaunch of the brand and the First Annual Downtown Blues & Comedy Festival.

As part of the rebranding effort, Garrett Morris’ Downtown Blues & Comedy Club will open a spectacular new venue at 501 South Spring Street inside the Alexandria Hotel. The new venue will offer a more spacious setting and allow for a significant increase in capacity, while also allowing the club to be more flexible and aggressive in its booking and scheduling of shows. The Remedy also assisted with the design of the stage in the new facility, including creating its impressive new stage backdrop.

“We are certainly proud to be able to work with Garrett and Kevin Garnier as they take their brand to a new level,” said Stephen Evans, President of The Remedy. “Garrett is a legend in the entertainment industry, and our main focus was to develop a brand that could stand up next to his iconic stature.”

The first show in the new venue will be on Thursday, November 8. The grand opening weekend will continue with special showcase performances on Friday and Saturday, November 9-10.

“This is an extremely exciting move for us and something that we are very proud of,” said Morris, who, in addition to owning and operating the venue with partner Kevin Garnier, serves as the club’s host and emcee. “This offers us a great opportunity to grow our business and provide an even greater entertainment experience to comedy fans in L.A. and the surrounding communities. We believe we finally have a destination venue and a ‘home’ that we can settle into.”

The new logo features a caricature of comedy legend Garrett Morris and a view of the downtown Los Angeles skyline. The word Downtown is prominently featured in the logo in a font reminiscent of the landmark Hollywood sign in the Hollywood Hills and is showcased in an effort to closely associate the club to its location and as a tip of the cap to its longstanding presence as downtown Los Angeles’ only comedy club.

The new venue will allow Garrett Morris’ Downtown Blues & Comedy Club to expand its offering of programming. The opening weekend will include the First Annual Blues & Comedy Festival on Friday, November 9 and Saturday, November 10, featuring performances from comics Luenell, Brett Butler, Jennifer Coolidge, Jonathan Kite, Justin Hires, Ron G., Vicki Barbolack, Leonard Robinson, and other surprise acts, along with musical interludes from The Deacon Jones Blues Band, The Martin Guigui All Star Blues Band, and even Garrett Morris himself.

Typical Friday and Saturday shows at Garrett Morris’ Downtown Blues & Comedy Club will feature a mix of hilarious comedy from the hottest up-and-coming comics and some of the circuit’s best-known acts mixed with an offering of the most soulful Blues melodies this side of Memphis. And on Thursdays the club will feature a new show, Hire Level Thursdays with Justin Hires. Hires, an ascending comedian who recently appeared in the box office hit 21 Jump Street, will host the Thursday shows and perform along with a cast of others who will provide a more urban, youthful vibe for the college crowd and those who still feel young at heart.

Finally, Garrett Morris’ Downtown Blues & Comedy Club secured a new website domain that better captures the repositioned brand and launched a redeveloped website to represent the new identity. Now located at bluesandcomedy.com, the new online home of Garrett Morris’ Blues & Comedy Club features news and information about the club, including information about upcoming performances, an ability to purchase tickets online, historical and recent videos and photos, and an offering of new merchandise and apparel.

Tickets to the Hire Level Thursdays shows are just $10, while tickets to the Friday and Saturday night performances are $20. All shows start at 9:00 p.m.
